If you are looking for a unique katana espacially made for tameshigiri (cutting exercises), the Taketori katana is what you are looking for. Only 50 pieces of this katana are made.
The high carbonsteel blade was designed to handle heavy targets and more challenging tameshigiri exercises. The differentially tempered blade and the small cutting angle make this sword very strong and durable. The cutting edge is HRC60, while the back is HRC40. This makes the sword strong but also flexible enough to handle the impact of the cut.
The tsuka (handle) is wrapped with black same (rayskin) and is wrapped with a high quality tsuka-ito (cotton wrap). The long tang is fixed in the handle with two bamboo pegs for optimal safety and strength. The tsuba (guard) represents a bamboo forrest and gave this katana its name of 'bamboo cutter'.
