The Minamoto Yoshiie Katana ist the firs tmodel of the “Swords” of handforged swords and combines simple elegance with high quality. This sword is the basic version without Hi (groove on the blade) with a blade made from Spring Steel. It already offers the main advantages of a handforged sword regarding sharpness and durability which you need for the practical use of the sword. This sword can be used for traditional cutting test tameshigiri (cutting tatami omote) without no doubt, but we do recommend the tameshigiri only to advanced martial arts practitioners due to the fact that a minor technique could do harm to the sword or even yourself. In memory of the famous samurai Minamoto Yoshiie this katana shares his name.

Minamoto Yoshiie (1041-1108) is perhaps the most important member of the Minamoto-Clan and has already become a legend during his liefetime. During his era no other than him represented the spirit of the samurai more than he did.As a smart army commander he has become a hero during the “Three Year War” and later in the battle of Kanazawa, where he defeated the rebels of the Kiyowara family on behalf of the Japanese Emperor. But the anticipated rewards from the Japanese Emperor were refused to him. Being aware of the great willingness to sacrifice, he payed his faithful followings from his own fortune and thereby assured himself glory and appreciation in the history of the Samurai, even far beyond his death.
